I live approx 30 mins south of Lansing. It's a nice town...home of Michigan State University. The job market is good, and there are various types of neighborhoods and surrounding communities. Okemos (suburb of Lansing) is a very nice area, but housing is more expensive. Holt (another suburb) is a nice area, on the south side of Lansing, and housing is more affordable, there. I don't know much about the school systems, first hand. However, I hear that there are good schools in the greater Lansing area. Lansing is definitely worth a look.

Lansing is great
lansing is great, one of the only good places in Michigan. Nice little famuily town butttt there are TONS off college kids everywhere because of MSU and LCC. But if I had the choice to live out there, I would.

CJS - hometowner?
I grew up aprox. 30 miles south of Lansing, so we must be from the same area. Springport?
To the person who called Lansing a "nice little town", just how would you define a city?! Springport is a "nice little town" of around 700. Lansing is a city by anyones standards, especially if you include the surrounding area.

Does she live in the east part of Lansing - or the city of East Lansing? (There is a difference.)
East Lansing, home of Michigan State University, is pretty much a college town with lots of student housing. The northern part of the town, though, is where a lot of families/professors live, etc, if they don't live in Okemos. Overall the city is very nice - even the "student housing areas" are better than what I see at other universities.
The campus is large and absolutely gorgeous and there are many activities going on related to MSU. (They even have a big theater on campus for Broadway plays, etc.)
I would have no problem living in East Lansing. Lansing itself I'm not as fond of but it's fine.

Lansing area is really nice. Lansing proper, you can find nice areas, but the schools are terrible there, and there isn't really any 'nice' school there. Even the few 'nice' areas of Lansing, the schools the kids would end up in are pretty bad.
Waverly used to be pretty nice, but the schools there are going down rapidly.
East Lansing, GREAT GREAT city. Okemos, great, DeWitt great...Lansing has a lot of great surrounding areas, but be careful though some places have problems you won't find out about until its too late or unless you hear from somebody familiar w/the area.

Lansing itself is a nice town but I agree with what someone said abt the schools(not good). I lived in Okemos for a couple years and absolutely loved it there. It was exactly the place I looked for all my life, except too cold for my liking. Haslett, also very very good. East Lansing would be my third choice.
