Default L Brooks Patterson - Gov?

From the Jan 8th Detroit Free Press:

Oakland County executive L. Brooks Patterson said he’ll formally announce Saturday he’s “testing the waters” on a run for Michigan governor in 2010.

“I know I can do better,” he said this morning. “I think I’ve proven that, if you look at how well Oakland County‘s managed and the things we’re doing here. I think we take the programs that are successful here and replicate that at the state level.”

Patterson: 'I know I can do better' as governor | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press

What do you think? Would Patterson be best for Michigan?

Personally, it would be the one thing to make me consider moving out of Michigan.

The guy is so ancient in his thinking. He's not visionary. He's an obstructionist with no progressive ideas. His idea of a perfect Michigan is a six lane boulevard running through farmland.

Yes! Soon as he announces he's running, I'm sending a check and signing up for the campaign.

He is so the complete example of what is wrong with southeast michigan. Very anti everything, very anti solution. Very obstructionist.

we are going to be screwed in the next election. I mean come on Cherry or Patterson? I don't want either.

That is if I'm still here in michigan by that time.......

When you live in one of the most affluent counties in the US, it's not hard to see why County Executive Patterson has delusions of what needs to be done with the rest of the state.Oakland County, Michigan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It's like someone making $200,000 a year and wondering why the rest of us can't get our act together! As far as the state goes, he lives and works in a microenvironment. He's out of touch.

And if Patterson was thinking about a shot at the governors seat(and this wasn't a thought that occured to him yesterday), how come he hasn't been out and about around the state talking to people? What is his model for the state? According to him, it's the wonderful job that he's done with Oakland County! He hasn't done anything. He's just another administrator. Let me know if your county is doing as well as Oakland..................

No kidding. He does realize that about 1/10th of his electorate would lie within the city boundaries of Detroit, right?

You are very correct! I was upset to hear that he was re-elected for Oakland County Exec, even though I knew that the other candidate really did not have a chance.

If he runs or wins I would be very upset!

yup Granholm has been a real blessing to Mi, we are the worst state in the union all things considered. We are a financial/ labor friendly laughing stock of the nation. We have (progressive visions) to die for.

I don't know if he would make a good governor, but could someone please explain what he has or has not done as Oakland County Executive to deserve all of this derision? What has he done that was "obstructionist" and if he did something that was in fact "obstructionist" was it in the rational selfish interests of residents of Oakland County?

I voted for Patterson and against the Mayor of Southfield because I was afraid she'd open up the county's coffers and send boatloads of money to Detroit and Pontiac and waste it on mass transit.
