Default Lansing neighborhood

I've been working in Lansing for about 2 years now. Didn't really grow up in the area, and still live about 35 miles west of here (I commute).

Have been toying with the idea of buying a house in Lansing (don't lecture me on the economy, I've lived in Michigan my whole life and I'm fully aware of everything that is going on). I was exploring one day after work, and I discovered a little neighborhood just west of MLK blvd and south of Michigan, east of Sexton high school. There were quite a few nice looking, well-kept brick homes.

Can anyone tell me anything about this neighborhood? How much are these houses worth? Is it safe? On the surface, it looks like a diamond in the rough close to downtown.

My sister recently bought a house in that area right off Moore's River Dr. Very nice, older and established neighborhood. Her neighbors are quiet and she is surrounded by respectful people. She is a single, 30yr professional that was looking to be near downtown but still in a neighborhood she could walk the dog without worrying. I'd say.. if you find the right house for the right price, you can't go wrong. Just gotta sit on the house for a while should you need to sell.

If you're talking about the old Sexton neighborhood, its actually a super nice neighborhood. Plenty of old houses built in the 1920's and earlier. A majority of them are brick and are in beautiful shape. My job sometimes requires me to do marketing every now and then, such as going door to door and placing door hangers on peoples doorknobs. I spent days in that neighborhood just walking around and I think outside of Moore's River, its definitely the nicest neighborhood in Lansing. While some areas around it are sketchy, I can tell you that its a pretty darn safe area and you shouldn't ever have a problem in there. The people who live there are nice and are pretty well off. I'm not sure about housing prices, but I'd venture to say that like most areas, the prices have fallen a lot and you should probably be able to find a house for fairly cheap there. Especially since its right in Lansing and has the city schools.

Thanks for the responses! Sounds like a pretty decent neighborhood. I think I've heard enough to look into it a little more.
