You're making it sound like he died of self-neglect or senility, Driller. They shut off his electricity.

Meanwhile we have the city manager saying it was the responsibility of the neighbors to check on him, and the mayor saying "its unfortunate he didn't reach out, we could've helped him". Nobody in authority is taking any responsibility for this and the city manager even said that he didn't believe they did anything wrong! The man had the money clipped to the bill on his kitchen table! Whether or not he was too elderly to live alone, which may have been the case, the fact remains that he would still be alive if the utility company hadn't shut off his electricity in the middle of an exceptionally cold winter! Other states have laws that don't allow utility shut offs in the middle of winter - why don't we?

It WAS his fault. He did not pay his bill.

That tells me he was not capable of handling his affairs, again sad.

Maybe it was a suicide. But that doesn't make it OK to shut a guy's power off when it's 15 degrees outside.

If it was against the law he will have relatives coming out the the wood work now, to collect. Of course, they couldn't have checked on him.

He doesn't have relatives, according to most of the articles I saw. He had no children and his wife died before him. Even if he was too old to take care of his own affairs, that still doesn't make it okay to turn off his heat in the middle of January!

He owed $1100 in back bills, this did not happen over night. They had put some kind of device on it in an attempt to get it resolved.
