Shoddier parts on American cars?

One of my concerns about buying an American-branded car is that because of all their financial pressures, I am concerned that the American companies might be trying to cut corners and use shoddier parts in their vehicles. Also, they have been squeezing their suppliers for years, effectively encouraging them to decrease the quality of their parts in an attempt to save money.

I'd consider buying a GM if the price were right, but I'd prefer a Japanese vehicle for a little bit more money. If I ever needd to sell it, it would certainly pay off in terms of resale value.

Someone posted on the Detroit News forums some time back that Chrysler uses plastic or Jell-o for suspension parts! Don't know how true that is...

Plastic?

Huh! I hope they're talking about the use of poly-graphite plastic for the suspension bushings like, I think, some of the European manufacturers are using now.

But Jell-o?! ...holy cow!
