Sterling Heights does a good job. The last big snow dump we had, I was behind three trucks who were plowing and salting.

I think all I have noticed of Michigan is the mitten part...the UP must be WAY up there...
White out...is that the same as a blackout, if not, what is it?
I feel like I need a dictionary for snowbelt slang...
You would die in Florida...if 40 is teeshirt weather...down here you'd vaporize comes summer...lol...

A white out , is when blowing snow reduces visibility to 0, or only a few feet. very dangerous conditions.
I know about Florida , lived there for five years in the 80s. ( SW coast area ). One of the coldest days I can recall anywhere , was being on the beach , scraping ice from my boats windshield in Sarasota. ... Summer ? , not habitable for humans , or pets. The sand is way too hot to walk on , the bugs eat you alive ( no seeums )... and the humidity drains all ability to do anything constructive out doors. There is a reason Florida was considered worthless swamp , only of value to the natives. When the big wind comes one day , the Seminole's will get it back ,... and , that would be a good thing.
..... I do not consider Key West part of Florida. The Conch Republic is worth a visit , or a winter hide a way...... Most everyone I knew those years , have moved back north , to retire , and , cool off !

lmaooooooooooooooooo @ cool off.
The UP isnt a cool off though, that's cryostasis...lol.
I didn't stop to think how unpleasant florida's humidity is though...cause you are right, june, july, and AUGUST (the DOG days of summer) you can't touch your car, you definitely don't want to do anythng outdoors til 6pm or 7, you walk outside and clothes instantly stick...i somehow don't think the humidity is this bad even in jamaica, which is further south...
But my skin will crack up and flake a lot more and a lot faster in the freezing temps, not to mention the cold air will burn my nose where humid air doesn't bother me really...guess it's just time to stock up on baby oil by the CASE up there...

O' yes , the dryness does create problems. people who have dry eye -mouth problems ( Sjogrens )... have a tougher time. However , many allergy prone people , seem to loose the effects , once they move here. Because of the Big lakes , pollen reactions are less.... ( not too many people allergic to rocks ).... tree allergies are another matter...... Then there are the Black flys , and Mosquito infestations in April , may , and part of June. Real bad , if there is no breeze. You need a net over your face in the woods that time of year..... So , its not perfect. Live near the Lake , on a mountain or hill and you will survive.

There is a lot more that you can do to stay warm when you are outside than you can do to cool off when you are outside. The cold is rough, but excessive heat is miserable and there is nothing that you can do about it except go inside.

I've never had a reason to be in any woods so you just added to the list of reasons why i don't really need to be in them. lol. NMC's website says it's walking distanceto the beach, so that should mean i'm near the lake...

Very true. Cold you can just keep adding layers and gear til you can't even walk, but, you'll be room temp...
I'll probly need a ski mask type skully for winter cause i can't take the cold air burn in my nose.

I highly recommend you invest in a Humidifier for the winter! it will cut down dramatically on dry skin, dry nose and eyes! make the winter indoors much more comfortable!!!!
speaking of rough winter...my mom (in cheboygan) is on her way to the milwaukee area for the weekend (originally from WI) and she was saying how they got tons of snow yesterday so her drive up north this afternoon was BEAUTIFUL!!! she says that the trees were perfectly covered and teh sky was blue and roads dry.....driving to mackinaw from cheboygan she said it was just perfect

Yes it is walking distance from NMU to the beach. In fact , there is a walking/biking / jogging trail that runs a several miles. You are apt to encounter deer along the way. Marquette's jewel at the north end is the " island "... A county park about 6 miles around the shore called Presque Isle, with rocky pounding serf and old growth towering trees. Sunset point is there as well . quite a spectacle to see on a summers eve, with the Huron Mountains in the back ground.

So true about the layers! Thing is that if I just want to run to the store I have to bundle up because I freeze (my husband, otoh, does not)but in the heat I am good and don't have to take 15 minutes of piling on stuff to leave the house. It is all what your body can handle (or is it your mind? ). I don't mind being hot, I love it, but I do not like being cold. 40º is still my down coat and gloves and I am in the Lower P.
Anywho, that was funny, not being able to walk!!

Apparently you have never lived where temperature stay well over 100 for weeks at a time. You just do not go outside in that if you can avoid it. You cannot take off anything more and you are still sweltering. I would take cold over that anyday.
