I lived in Vegas from Aug. to Jan. Yep, it was well over 100 for weeks and I loved that I could go swimming every day. Didn't even mind going shopping. In fact, when I got back here, as I was leaving Meijer in the freezing, windy crap and I couldn't keep my hat on, I was so irritated and upset trying to remember if I felt that way loading groceries in the heat. Nope. Just went to Starbucks and got a frozen coffee and off I went. Loving that I did not have to walk/slosh or drive through the messy snowy junk. My daughter didn't care for it, but I loved it. I didn't lay in the sun or anything, but I did go in the hot tub.
Can't wait until I can get back. Different strokes, I guess. Good thing otherwise we would all be living in the same area.

Even in Jamaica the temp does not get to 100 degrees, much less consistently...that is suicide...
I think cali is the only place i have heard of in the states that has mild weather all year...however...earthquakes are a serious dealbreaker. I can deal with hurricanes, even a blizzard is inside my sphere of experience...but the earth, the thing that should be most secure in my life, just throwing up or trying to swallow me at odd moments?
My faith in all things holy would be ruined. I would be a nervous wreck. Is there even an earthquake "season" or do they just pop up whenever the mood strikes? One thing to not be able to count on a job or a spouse, but the earth i walk on should ALWAYS be there.
It's like how they are saying now Pluto isn't a planet. It's made me feel like I'm in an alternate universe...how could that BE what do you MEAN it's not a planet!? lol I was hurt!

Sorry, but much of Southern California has weeks of 100 plus weather in many areas. It generally comes in October when the Santa Ana winds start to blow. The Inland empire is the worst (Riveride/San Beradino), except for the desert, but much of Los Angeles County, Orange County and San diego County suffer through weeks of intense heat as well. Only the beach communities usually escape. (We lived there for 18 years). The say that it is ok becuase it is a dry heat is bogus. It is hot, insufferably hot. You just stay inside and hope that you do not have to get into a car that has been sitting outside.
By they way, many (most? all?) Californians hate when people call California "Cali" it really grates on them for some reason. The name of the state is California. I am not sure why they hate it so much, but it really bugs people. Would it bother you if people trying to be hip called Michigan "Michi"? It seems a little silly, but some people get really upset when they hear "Cali".
People from Orange County also hate when Orange County is called "The OC" Residents call it Orange County, or OC. Never "The OC" (sometimes people who move from L.A. call it "behind the Orange Curtain"). Orange COunty residents do not like to be linked to that horrid television show. Again many residents get really mad when they hear people say "The OC" Do people here get annoyed when outsiders refer to "The Big D"?
San Diego has a very mild climate. Probably the most mild anywhere that I know of. It still gets hot there if you are away from the ocean, just not as frequently. Parts of San Diego County are super hot.
When it is hot, it is intolerable. Our pool got so hot that it was uncomfortable to swim in it. It was like getting into a hot tub when it is 100 degrees outside - no thanks. All you really could do was stand in the shade or stay inside. Getting into a car that had been outside was painful. Sometimes even breathing the superheated air in your car hurt.
I think it depends on how much cold bothers you. For people who really despise cold and really get bothers by having to wear a coat, hat and gloves, it is worth a few weeks of extreme discomfort in trade for owtherwise ideal weather. For people who do not mind wearing a coat and/or who really hate to be uncomfortably hot, five months of cool to cold weather is preferable to warm with a few weeks of blistering heat.
I preferred the warm climate, but after four winters here, I am beginning to think that this climate is preferable. My wife hated the climate in California. She much prefers the Michigan climate.
Earthquakes can happen at any time. They do seem to happen when it is hot and still (no wind), people refer to that as "earthquake weather" but I think that is just hooey. It is just chance that many of the recent large quakes were when it was hot and still. There is no connection between earthquakes and weather that I have ever heard of. To me Earthquakes were not really a big deal. They happen so fast that you really do not have time to be scared. By the time you figure out what it is, it is over. My wife however hated them. She was glad to leave for that reason among others (she also hated the "boring" weather). I always said that if you looked at ten years of history and added up all the people who died in Michigan during that ten years from freezing, it would far outnumber the people who died in earthquakes during the past ten years.

California takes much longer to say than Cali. And plenty people both from and outside of Cali refer to it as...Cali...
Furthermore, it's rather anal to be bothered by someone saying Cali. So those folks you refer to would be out of luck with me.
I say both ways depending what I am talking about and how familiar the other party is...but if someone really told me what you said to my face, I'd say "Is it REALLY that serious?! toughen up, chief!"...
On the weather...I see people here talk about the weather, and my cousins lived out there and said the same thing (the summers didn't blast like East Coast heat...they are in Maryland now)...then again, they were in northern cali...

My mom lived in San Francisco. They were the same there about the lingo. They hated "Frisco". It was either "the City" or San Francisco. I say "whatever, let it grind them, guess they don't have much to worry about, so good for them".
Weather has always been a source of contention for people. I think if you can live where you are most comfortable, that's great. After growing up and living in MI all my life, I have come to hate the cold, gray, snowy days. I find that I stay inside much more during the winter here in MI than staying inside during the summer in the desert. We did stay inside more than when it wasn't hot, but just not as much as when it is cold. I did not always hate the winters here, it is just in the last 10 years or so. I do not partake in any winter activities, partly because I don't like the cold and partly because I stink at them. I do, however, love swimming and water activities. That can also be a negative for desert living because lakes are scarce.
So, there are pluses and minuses to everything, you just have to figure out what you want more of!

I actually do not particularly want more cold (north florida does get cold) or snow...but I more want the positive career change and the housing/utilities stability than I care about whatever else...anytime it gets to me, i will remind myself how and why I ended up in it.
Plus I'm finding out tomorrow if that hospital's offer to pay includes acceptance to out of state nursing schools...that way i keep my job options open if i hate the winter...if they do...and i end up loving TC/Michigan despite the winters...then i simply won't apply for their scholarship or whatever, no biggie.
I just can't breathe when I feel trapped or like I have no way out, so I've given myself an out and something to focus on and strive for...

TC is very nice. I think if I could go anywhere in MI that would be one of the places on my list.
Good luck!
