News, Gov to announce $54M movie studio.
PONTIAC -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm is expected to announce today plans for a $54 million film studio project that could bring about 5,000 new jobs to the state, her spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
"This is the direct result of the aggressive film incentive that the governor called for in her State of the State in 2008," Liz Boyd said late Monday.

Wonderful. Now THAT will help all the displaced engineers and factory workers, won't it?
All this will do is provide a few low paying local jobs and bring in the hollywood crowd for visits. Let's see, what other state does this? California. What, financial, state is California in? BANKRUPTCY
Yeah, this will fix our problems.

Yeah, how dare you post that MI is getting jobs! And possibly more tourists trying to get a glimpse of a movie star! Shame....shame....
You know this is the Michigan forum....lets keep it depressing, ok.

There's not really much that can help displaced engineers and factory workers if they worked in automotive. Michigan will NEVER attract a foreign automaker. I don't care who's governor. Time to retool and retrain, or move to those Southern states to get a job (although it sounds like the foreign shops are laying off down South too and putting plants on hold).
And those looking for that one press conference that will "fix" Michigan should probably adjust your expectations. It's the hundreds of small press conferences touting 50 jobs here, 25 jobs there, that will change things (or maybe not even press conferences).
So what's wrong with a movie studio coming? Low paying jobs? How much do you think most factory workers make? (about $10 an hour is what most make).

I don't get why people seem to think that 'once an auto worker, always an auto worker.' A lot of them are going to nursing school now facryinoutloud. And engineering degrees and experience are WAY adaptable.
