Can someone reccomend a kayak
Can anyone reccomend an inflatable kayak, or non inflatable that costs around $100 or so? We would rather have a non inflatable but do not want to spend a lot for one, so probably will go with inflatable. Does anyone have one of these and if so do you like it? I know you get what you pay for, but just gonna use it on camping trips.

That's when you look for boats, convertibles, motorcycles and such to keep yourself busy and dream of summer.

I'm not sure how I feel about inflatable kayaks. The worthwhile ones cost more than cheap non-inflatable kayaks which I've seen advertised at a local sporting goods store for $200. One other negative for inflatable kayaks is that you need to let them dry out before you fold them up or they could start to mold. I've looked into this issue some since I'm an apartment dweller who'd like to kayak some of the local lakes. I'm not sure if it would be best to just get a cheat kayak or an inflatable. How the heck would I cart a regular kayak around?

Yeah, it would be best for you to get an inflatable. I would much rather have a "real" one, but just gonna use it camping mostly and would have to fit in the RV. My wife is gonna use it mostly, I take my Pelican 8' bass boat to fish in, but if I decide to use the kayak, I would feel much better with one that could not get a hole in it.

We had an inflateable for a while. It was neat beacse you could use it in snow (sliding down a mountain). It did not handle that well and did nto last that long. It got a tear in it when it scraped a piece of rebar that was underwater. You can repair a puncture, but not a tear.
We are looking for some affordable plastic Kayaks too. We do not need to move them (River in our front yard) so a rigid Kayak makes more sense. They are hard to find. Cheap canoes are easier to find.

Just watch the Sunday Dunhams' ads once we get to Spring/Summer. I think I also saw some sub-$250 kayaks at Dicks Sporting Goods the last time I was there.

100.00 is pretty much puts you in the used market - nothing wrong with that, but even then it will be hard. Sevylor makes a small inflatable kayak that you might pick up used for that - I think its called the RIO. I think its about 250.00 new. Anyway, I'd just keep searching Craigslist, some of the paddling forums have classifieds, papers, you might call some of the canoe/kayak liveries and see if they are going to off load some of their rental stock. If you do consider regular plastic ones make sure you consider the weight. Are you pretty young and healthy? I.e. can you lift 80 lbs onto the top of your car or how ever your going to transport it?

Yeah..I would love a used one, thats all we need. I have been looking at craigslist, and the papers all winter, but so far nothing. I will probably put an ad in the paper....maybe someone has one laying around and needs money. Im only 42, and I do work out and lift cement statues most of the year, so I should be able to carry one. I am real scared to get an inflatable especially if it is gonna be taken down rivers.
