And I do really understand the OP. My husband is now working in Vegas. I am not real happy being here in MI and not there with him. I am born and raised in MI. The difference for me is that I have no undying loyalty to MI or her beauty. I appreciate it, but that is all. I do not care for the cold anymore. There was a time where it didn't bother me so much, not anymore though. My only loyalty to MI is the people I love here. Those being my 4 children and soon-to-be 2 new additions. (having a hard time with the "grandparent" word!! eek!) They have lives here. Maybe not for long, but for now they do. Plus, my extended family is all here. Many of my family is in the UP, but most are here in the SE.
That said, I love NV and my husband is there. So, my heart is torn.
Perhaps I should have used the word martyr instead of superstar, too.

'sall good...I hear about the cold - I'm from MO, where it's never really less than 15 degrees at the worst, and that might be once or twice a winter...we've had temps in the 70's over the past week...
That's the deal though - it's the people and the community that make a place a good or bad place to live.
I though that, even if I moved to other places that I would return to MO because it's "home"...but the reality of it is, there just isn't anything I can get here that I can't get in MI.
And my daughter is 7 months old - I am missing out on so much, that it keeps me up at night (hence the posting on this board = DISTRACTION)...
Congratulations on the upcoming additions, G*ma! (My aunt Martha is "Gigi", my Aunt Teresa is "Chief" to her grandkids...so there are other alternatives to the "G-word"...)
And I hate Las Vegas. I never want to go back to that God-forsaken hell-hole in my life...people handing out porn on the street, vultures who try to get you into their places of entrepreneurship just to get the spare change floating in your pocket...the vampires who seem to be lurking around every corner for someone to lose focus on what is going on...I satayed in my hotel for around 80% of the time I was there...

Sounds like the RIGHT reason to move.

If you are the bread winner , seem like the right thing to do would be to follow you , not the other way around. Especially now , these days , when jobs are hard to find.

I started visiting LV about 9 years ago. Loved it then and knew that one day I would live there. Just didn't know that it would be before my youngest graduated and because if we didn't move there, we couldn't afford the home we have in MI.
I don't know if you got off the Strip at all, but there is so much more to LV than that. It is actually a beautiful place. But, beauty is a matter of opinion. I was a little desert shocked at first, missing the greenery and the moisture in the air. That was all pushed to the back of my mind as I love the fact that the sun shines more there than it doesn't. The place is much cleaner than SE MI where I live or most of MI that I have seen. Their roads are nicer and well taken care of. I just don't see all the garbage and crud that I do here in MI. I love the mountains and can't get enough of the views. I found the people to be much, much more pleasant. Everywhere! Even in gas stations. I knew when I was driving back that I had entered the Midwest when I went to a gas station and the grouchly, ole lady behind the counter just growled her comments. (Sorry, but I am pretty sure it was MO, MI is just as grouchy, IMO) Plus, no flying bugs of most sorts. No mosquitos, flying ants, flies, gnats, fleas, didn't see but one spider in the 5 mos I was there (ok, it was a softball size tarantula, but it was in the mountains, not my apt!). Loved that aspect too. I love the heat so the 112 degree days did not bug me. I would rather have the option to go swimming than be stuck inside during winter.
But you do not know these things unless you live elsewhere. You become used to your surroundings and how things are. Now that I have seen the difference, MI seems even darker to me. I do not begrudge anyone for loving MI, it does have good points, for sure. Everyone is looking for something that fits them and thats good. Prevents people from all cramming in one place, huh? I just know that desert living fits me.
I did miss the availability of lakes. I love the water. That, MI definitely has going for it. Now, only if it would be warmer longer and sunnier more...

I'm not the bread winner...I'm a little boy, trying to grow up and be a man.
It's a lot harder than I thought...

That's the part I'm afraid of...
well, that, and the fact that the only people I know up there are my (soon to be ex-)wife and her family, who f'n hate me...
other than that...
I think Michigan...ahhh, who am I kidding? The only reason I' going up there is because of my daughter. And after she graduates high school, I'm gone.

Well the thread started with someone who has a college education, has a degree and is planning to work minimum wage jobs instead of getting a job in the field he studied.
People with degrees can find jobs. I would just hope that someone who plans not to pursue something after obtaining a degree doesn't owe too much money for the degree.
There's nothing wrong with any job, nothing wrong with low paying jobs but someone doing so will never have a right to complain when he made the choice to not pursue a career.

I'm under 30, ran into some legal trouble while attending school...my student loans went into default, and I can't even get a $7 an hour job to pay the 6-month default payments to go back...
It's not a choice for me; I have made my bed, now I lay in it.

Well don't give up.
If you have a degree, then you still have a better chance at jobs than many.

I don't...arrested for pot in school. Lost all my grants and financial aid.
I'm the worst possible employee prospect...too educated for menial labor, but not certified, with a drug felony. There are literally THOUSANDS of people looking for work, who have less baggage than me.
No man's land.
Thanks for the encouragement though...

Sorry , your profile does not reflect that.... many people never grow up , and , some are just along for the ride.... where ever life takes them. A little balance is a better way to live.
