Question Moving to Ludington, MI

Hello, my husband, 2 yr old son and I are considering moving to Ludington. We have found TONS of info about visiting Ludington, but nothing about living there. Can anybody fill me in on some basic relocating info about the area? Thank you!

My in-laws live south of Ludington in Pentwater. Once in a while we'd come up to Ludington. This city has everything including Applebees, Super Walmart, and Home Depot. It has changed alot in the last 5 years, used to be a small town feel.

Lots of outdoor activities if you are into it (boating, fishing, hunting, biking, etc). You can take the ferry across to Wisconsin.

I do not have details on jobs in this area.

I don't know much about Ludington, being a relative newcomer to MI, and living in the SE part of the state.
One thing I've found handy when researching other places is to check out the local newspaper online. You can get a fair idea of what goes on, day to day, that way.

My family has a place in Ludington. I have vacationed there my entire life and really like it. It's a pretty small town on Lake Michigan and has an inland lake called Hamlin Lake. Both are beautiful. The town is very small and can be driven through in 3 stop lights. Stores don't change much from year to year and town closes up in the winter. The summer is crazy and beautiful though. Like the above post...Applebees, etc. is on the out scurts of town.

I would be happy to answer any questions, feel free to email me about Ludington. I don't know a whole lot about jobs but could tell you the best places to eat and things to do.

Thanks,
Sandy

Ludington is a beautiful place...most homes are north of old US 10, by the lake.

Very nice town, friendly atmopshere...The nature and outdoors is superb, and the beaches are great. The Sunsets are spectacular...So is the Ice cream

Its a great place!

Smile Move to Ludington

I love Ludington! I've been a Realtor in Manistee for the past 6 years and I just switched to Coldwell Banker Wonderland (in Ludington) 3 weeks ago. I feel like I'm home. Ludington has so much to offer...activities, shopping and a great community! We may be growing but we still are a "small town" community at heart. During the 4th of July Parade you could see that.

If you have any specific questions (jobs, hobbies, schools) let me know. I will make sure that you get in touch with the right people.

Keep in Touch-
Renee Leach

Default Ludington area

Yes I can help some. I live in Battle Creek and have spent many years staying in Ludington. My husband and I help restore the Big Sauble Lighthouse there in the state park. It is a tourist area with a lot of charm. Homes are relitively expensive. It is very nice there. If you have questions I will try to help. Pat

Ludington is a beautiful place. I live about an hour south of there right now. Everything everyone has said is true! I would love to live up there. Ludington can be expensive depending on the area that you live. Scottville might be a less expensive place to look into. The is right next to Ludington. From what I hear the school districts are decent as well. Jobs....thats another story. They are very hard to come by as we are finding out. So, unless you have a job already lined up, you may want to look into that before taking the plunge. Good Luck!!

Default Crime Stats!

My husband I were thinking about relocating to the Ludington/Manistee area from Rogers City, MI. Lovely town, very Mayberry, but not much to do.

What is it with the crime stats in Ludington/Manistee? Yikes! Crime is three times higher than Rogers City and even over the national average.

Anyone move from northeast MI to the western side and could shed some light on how safe it is - or not.

Reference those crime stats. I really don't think they reflect exactly what crime and safety is really like in the Ludington area. Here is my assessment: Big plus that there has only been one homicide in 6 years. As far as thefts...that would also include fraud crimes, the stealing of one's identity, where the suspect is often living in the area or even in the state and country. Also, copper thefts from air conditioning units etc is WAY up nationwide because it can be resold for a nice chunk of change. As far as the assaults go, those usually involve parties that know each other.

So if you cut that theft stat in half, cut the assault stat to one quarter; drops the index to more comfortable numbers.
