Default Places to live around Lansing, Mi

Hey guys (and gals), I will possibly be moving to the Lansing area (work will be on the SouthWest side), and although I have been to Lansing, I know nothing about the city itself. My kids are all grown so the school district doesn't concern me all that much. My wife and I, and our G S-H P, GunnerBoy are looking for a very rural area to live, say within a 30 minute drive of the SW side. Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions?

You'll find some nice deals on properties in Eaton Co (Eaton Rapids, Charlotte, Vermontville, etc) that will give you a rural life within 30 mins of SW Lansing. Other great areas are Holt and Mason (bigger towns), and Onondaga is more rural. Overall, these communities are nice and great for quiet living. The commute to Lansing is easy by either highway or back roads.
