However Woodhaven and Southgate are pretty close and they have most of the shopping opportunities that we need.

I'd love to live on the island. From what I hear, it's one of the best places to live downriver.

In my opinion, you can elimminate the word "downriver" from that sentence.
We had our choice of living anywhere in S.E. Michigan (just needed to be near DTW) and chose Grosse Ile over everywhere else and there were some really strong contenders. There are times that I think that Plymouth, Northville or Grosse Pointe would have been equally or nearly equally good choices, but that is more for location resaons that anything else. We really like the small schools and small town atmosphere among other things.

Haha, where did you live in Allen Park where there were gangs and drugs being openly sold on your street?

Weird. I live right there and don't see that. Maybe some kids dressed with baggy clothes but really no gangs in this area. There is some graffiti, but it's "tagging" and not actual gang graffiti.

He killed his own brother Remus. How good can he be? Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Gang graffiti is usually in red or blue with different symbols, denoting which gang claims that turf. Tagging is "artwork" or just a person spreading their reputation.
