Cool Hunting in Baldwin MI, area

Im thinking of purchasing some hunting land in the Baldwin area for Whitetail deer and turkey. Can anyone tell me how the heard has been? How big? How many? (whitetail that is). Is this a good idea?

Baldwin has some very good hunting. This winter has been tough on the herd though. I haven't heard any real numbers yet about winter kill, but it will be higher than usual. Between Baldwin and Scottville there are some VERY, VERY good hunting areas. I don't know if I would buy a chunk of land though because there is the State and National forest land in this area that offers good hunting and you don't have to pay the taxes on it .

Not sure what this is doing in the Detroit section but anyways...

Lake Co. where Baldwin is located is considered one of the poorest areas in the state for deer hunting. The DNR years ago overissued antlerless permits for years and it really hit the heard hard. Combine that with a poor economy in a poor area and the poaching is bad too. I would do more reasearch on a Michigan related outdoors site such as www.michigan-sportsman.com for a whole lot more advice. You can do much better than buying land around Baldwin.
