Don't forget Hemmingway, he wrote a number of stories set either in NW lower peninsula or up around the Munising area.

Another creator of stories with Michigan settings is Jeff Eugenides -- The Virgin Suicides and Middlesex are both set in Grosse Pointe, so they are obviously horror novels and not suitable for children, or persons with artificial limbs.

Thanks for this thread, I'm making a list as we go along. A couple I've already read but some I haven't had the pleasure of reading yet.
Nevada Barr has written a few books set in northern Michigan too (some of hers are set in other places too)

Actually Christopher North lives further North than Stephen King. King lives in Bangor, ME which sits just under the 45th parallel (44.82N) while Mr. North lives above the 45th in Topinabee (45.47N).

I have to check one of our local bookstores in this area. They have a whole rack dedicated to Michigan Authors. I'll make notes while I am picking up another book tomorrow.

For crying out loud, I forgot all about Four Souls by Louise Erdrich, which I just finished devouring. It's all about a woman on the revenge trail because white loggers stripped her ancestral lands (in the UP) bare.

Lindseyup67 is on a distinguished road
I HIGHLY recommend this book.
U.P. Weather History
It is written by Karl Bohnak, who is our local weatherman here in the U.P. The book is not just about weather, it is more about the history of the area. My brother from Maryland came up this past Xmas, starting reading my moms book(bought at my insistance), and ended up taking it home with him! IMO...a MUST read for all interested in the Upper Peninsula!!!!!!!!!
