Default Which banks are good/safe in midland area?

I am thinking of switching to a different bank. Some local banks are Wolverine Bank, Chemical Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Comerica Bank. There is also Bank of America but I don't like it much. If I were to switch to a bigger bank I would choose Chase but then the closest branch is in Saginaw. I have checked the bank rating Wolverine Bank is a five star bank and it seems to have good customer service but it is very small. Could you give me some insight and suggestion.

Firth Third has been great to us.

If you work for Dow Chemical or Dow Corning then I would highly recommend Dow Chemical Employee's Credit Union. Even if you have family that works there, you can sign up. I've also heard good things about Midland Area Credit Union.

I would also second the recommendation for the Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union, if you or someone in your family works for Dow. I also have an account with Independent Bank and they have been very good - they don't ever do some of the nasty tactics that other banks do like process debits before deposits and hit you with charges if they see that the deposit is right there already. I've been very happy with Independent.

Dow Chemical Employees Credit Union gets my vote also. I haven't lived in Midland in over 10 years and I still have an account there. Several years ago when I was shopping for a mortgage they had very competitive rates and closing costs. They allow membership to select employer groups listed on their web site, so you don't necessarily need to work for Dow Chemical or Corning. Over the past few years they've been installing ATMs around Midland and the surrounding area, so you're never far from an ATM.

I'm not sure why you "didn't like" Bank of America, but I've had experience with several of the banks you have listed and would reccomend Bank of America over all of them. My favorite thing is their ATM's, you never really need to go in to talk to anybody..you get images of your checks printed right on the ATM reciept, and cash is counted by the ATM and posts instantly to your account. (No envelops or waiting) They've also got a awesome Brokerage account and online tools if your into investing, its all linked to your checking account online. They also have rewards debit cards, or ones to get airline miles (my choice) and you ear 2 miles on every dollar spent.

Comerica and Bank of America have both screwed me over royally.

Me and my husband had seperate Bank of America accounts but I gave him minimum access to mine, I was told that our accounts were in no wa connected and the only way he could take money out of it was in case of emergency. Of course one week later his account went five dollars negative and they TOOK it from my account and placed it in his... Now I know thats not a huge deal in a couple ways but to be told our accounts were in no way connected and then to have my money transfered into his was unexceptable

CHASE bank has been very good to me over the past year or so I deff. recommend them.
