Default Best movies made in Michigan?

I saw this thread in the Ohio forum (where I am forced to live for the time being) so I stole it (hopefully I'm not repeating something).
Partly because I don't know of any without googling.

I would think/hope that parts of the American Pie movies were actually filmed on Lake Michigan in Michigan but I'm not for sure.

And in the dim recesses of memory I remember seeing an X-files episode (TV ok too) that was filmed in a hazlenut farm/grove in Michigan. I remember that because I remember thinking - we have hazlenut farms here? (It was very spooky too).

I know "Barn Red" was filmed in Leelanau County in 2004. I have not seen it to know if it was good or not but it was for sure made in Michigan. *S*

Escanaba in da Moonlight was filmed guess where? <G> That's a Jeff Daniels Movie.

Somewhere in Time with Chris Reeves was filmed at least part of it, at the Grand Hotel.

As for American Pie, I thought it was set but not actually filmed in LC.

I googled Barn Red - it seems to have gotten a general "C" rating. But I wonder if that's because it seems like an emotional heartbreaker tough to watch sort of topic.

From a viewer on IMBD
If you are looking for the latest buddy film or some other cinematic special effects overload then by all means pass this one by.

But if you want to see a seasoned veteran of the screen in a vehicle that entertains at a relaxed pace, then you may want to check out "Barn Red." While this slow moving drama will have the MTV (read EMPTY-V) reaching for their remotes, those with the patience to stay will see a wonderful performance by an exceptional actor.

Faced with the possible loss of his farm, land that has been in his family for generations, Borgnine's character must make some tough decisions as he tries to enlist the support of his neighbors who are tempted by the promise of great wealth from aggressive land developers.

Other films have looked at the plight of the modern day family farm but few of them have this much heart.

Was there also a movie or a book made about the nun who was killed in Leelanau county in the early 1900's?

There is a play, the name escapes me at the moment.

Anatomy of a Murder just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Read an article about it in the paper.

Here is a link to the search feature on IMDb that will allow you to look up filming locations for TV and Movies by location. Second set of choices lets you look up titles by "Location". Type in "Michigan" and you get 800+ titles back. You can add other search features as well like by year or range of years. The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

There was portions of one filmed a few miles away from my house last year, but I forgot the name. It was supposed to be set in Maine and they filmed it in the West Michigan woods, I had to laugh.
