sugar Island (property, economy, water)

I have an uncle who bought a lot and built on sugar island.
It was a nice place if you like the water way with big boats going back and forth. You have to take a farry to and from the island.
nothing much there but a bar and small store.
How are property values on sugar island? I have not talked to my uncle in 5 years and have wonderd what the economy is doing there.
He paid big $ for the lot, they were going for a lot of $ back then.
With all the bad devaluation in michigan I was wondering if the bad economy has affected this little island in michigan.
