Default WP employee living in Benton Harbor

Hello and I just wanted to tell you that I am a Whirlpool employee and would like to welcome you to WP and to the Benton Harbor, St. Joseph area. Benton Harbor is on a come up and they are doing lots of work to improve the crime rate and the overall "look and feel" of Benton Harbor. I myself live in the Benton Township in a newly built sub-division called Woodridge and its a VERY nice area. Although, I have lived in various parts of Benton Harbor. I have been working for WP for 7 years and I am just 4 min away from work. I encourage you to possibly look in this area too because there are lots of perks like it being a renassiance area.

Welcome!!

Benton Harbor has a great deal of construction going on especially with the Harbor Shores Project. Right now the lots are available for purchase and your house can be built where ever you'd like in the Harbor Shore area. There is so much happening right now that is good for the city. Benton Harbor has had its problems but it is a city that was just voted the city with the most promise. The whole project is partly sponsored by Whirlpool so your husband should be able to get some good inside information about that.

Where do you live now? I am finding it hard to make friends here but then have very bad health. The people at church and clerks like at grocery store are nice though.

Benton Harbor?? Thats one of the states worst cities. Its a miniature Detroit: grime and grit, no jobs, people leaving and gangs. Good grief, live in Niles or Dowagiac.

Yeah stay out of Benton Harbor. Some peoiple do say benton Harbor when they mean St. Joe, Stevensville area.

St. Joe is different world then Benton Harbor. Even Fairplane is a better then Benton Harbor--more mixed community.

What is weird about Benton Harbor now they are trying to gentifry down town, business, restaurants, art galleries etc. Would like to see them succeed but the poverty of the place is bad, will take a lot to overcome.

Default What happened to Benton Harbor?

My memories of Benton Harbor (never actually visited) were from the days of Heathkit. Both my wife and I assembled many, and still have some to this day. Of course, they've been gone for many years.

Is the closing of Heathkit what caused the big downturn? At one time the company employed many engineers and skilled technicians, technical writers, etc, so it must have been decent at one time.

Lightbulb Controversy as usual in the twin cities

Heathkit became Heath at some point, I was pretty young then so I don't exactly remember when.... I know Heaths been gone awhile now...It just seemed like businesses left and left and now theres definately nothing left.
WHIRLPOOL .....doesn't seem to like to hire anyone local.... As the original poster of this thread is from "out of state" and just landed a job there!!!
Theres a DHS building downtown on 8th st. Along with a SSA builing a block away..They are the newest buildings to go up!!! BENTON HARBOR MURDER CAPITAL OF THE NATION IN 1993. ...ST.JOSEPH is a fine place to live if you have "money" and can afford a luxury vehicle... so your not "singled out"
Lots of tension between those two cities they sit next to each other only divided by the river. One side is struggling with nothing having to turn to selling drugs, stealing, welfare etc. just to survive day to day. The other, just wonders why they are that way.......
