No, there are no time limits, just a trail season - Dec. 1 through March (I think?) and the sledders are required to buy trail permits. But I wouldn't say that most people up here live on acreage, in fact acreage is pretty hard to find - I know because I'm looking . From my experience, the majority of population lives in town, and in the scattered former towns that are now just clusters of houses in the middle of nowhere. A good percentage of the countryside is either federal or state forests, or is owned by big logging or paper mill corporations. You may be able to find some plat maps online which would show this.

Hi us2indaup

Depends on where you look for the acreage , ive found lots of properties from 1 to 40 to 600 acre lots for sale just depends if you have the dollars i guess.

For me its all well priced as housing n acreage is expensive over here.

Marquette is a great place to live. I love visiting Marquette and know many people that love it. In the UP, the western side is the best place to live. The only downside is that there is a large University population. I mean that there are many that stay for graduate school and make a life in Marquette. Many people that want to retire move to the outskirts or out of the area. I know a few life-long residence that have complained about this issue. Overall, I think its a great choice. If you move to Marquette and don't love the town, but love the UP, there are many great towns around it to relocate to.

Thank you, AussieMale, but GOOD LORD!!!!! $660,000.00!!!!! Heavens, real estate must be outrageous in Australia if that price seems reasonable to you. Just a bit too pricey for me, but that is the sort of thing we're looking for. Only keep it under $100,000.00, and even that is a bit steep for us. I scour Realtor.com daily, and if you do as well you'll see what I mean about most (reasonably priced) homes for sale being in town on teeny tiny lots. I'm talking about homes in the $50,000 to $75,000 range, which is the range I'm looking for.
Thanks, tho, for the input!

Hi us2indaup

I just sold one of my investment properties for just under 500k 1 1/2 story about 2000sf approx on 2.5 acres 3 beds 3 baths etc , btw

I have another on the market atm 4.4 acres for 895k 4 bed 2 bath.

When we make our move over to the USA , i want no more than 3 to 5 acres to live on at this stage. Once were happy with the area where living in n want more acreage will look again to up size.

Have you considered Wisconsin Northwoods lakefront property in Vilas or Price counties? It's everyones dream, but few can afford it - sounds like you can, tho
Wishing you guys all the luck !

I have about 30 Realty websites I check almost daily, including UPMLS. Our own home is listed on UPMLS, but it is also on Realtor.com. I figure if I check them all, hopefully I won't miss any new listings

Thanks!

Hi mate

No have not looked at those counties n i dont know where they are without looking them up.

As 95% of the wifes family live in Menominee MI n Marinette WI , I have found Oconto county is like middle ground for me at this stage.

I plan to find work in Green Bay. I dont want to spend hours driving to n from work if i work in GB.

If i dont work in GB i plan on starting up my own business in property management . Ive been looking at multi-family properties like a 40 plex building16 plex 4 plex n so on & ill buy up single properties with long term tenants if priced rite , even buy out a real estate firm to put all the different properties on the books n make it a rental property office as well , develop my own stuff n the list goes on , but all of this is long term n if i like been a landlord from the first complex i buy, did my number on a 12 plex n the income from that will see me for life if i dont want to do anything else. I plan on buying run down properties to do up as well for income 1 or 2 a year, hell knows theres so much i can do there to make money.

As for the fancy houses n counties i have no interest in them. im after a nice little property thats levelish land n max 1200 sf ranch style with a basement a shed or 2 for all the junk n stuff...lol. Ive seen a few that looked ok for less than 80k

Thinking also maybe just buy something cheap under 40k for the first 2 years or so while i build. theres a riverfront of 3 acres going for about 70k ,if its still there ill buy it , catch some fresh fish put my own little boat ramp for a 15 foot flat bottom tinny type just for fishing n semi retire , travel around the states during school holidays n so on.
