A summer morning in Grand Haven, eating Gelato from Lago San Stefano on Washington Street.
The September apple harvest with the donuts, cider and cheap good apples
The fall colors in the Manistee National Forest
Grand Rapids, especially coming at it from the south.
Meijer
A sunset atop the big dune at sleeping bear
Waking up on the Straits of Mackinac at Wilderness State Park.
The Grand Traverse Region--the wines, the bay, Old Mission--all of it.
Coming at Petoskey from US 131
The view of the Straits from Fort Michlimackinac
That's all I can think of now, but there's probably a ton more.

You are right about the bridge. I still remember last summer headed to the U.P when the big towers came into view was just awesome! Always an exciting thing to see!

I can add a few places to eat. One is more local right here in Highland. Place called The Highland House. Oh man is their food good. If you like fish, the New England baked cod.
Two places I love to visit in Gaylord. Gobblers, I'm not the biggest turkey fan but that place has some good food. ( at least before it was sold, not sure now). Also I can't visit Gaylord without a visit with my kids to Mooney's Ice cream. Location could be better, but have been going there since I was a little kid.
I've only camped at a few places. If you liked campgrounds the KOA in Gaylord is run by a really nice family. The KOA in Newberry in the U.P was pretty nice and a good location to reach things around you. Also Headwaters Resort in Waters. It's located right off Big Bradford lake, they have a nice beach, you can fish right off shore, or they have a boat launch and dock it you have a jet ski or boat with you. It's also run by a really nice couple. Kim and Steve are some great hosts.

I love the low, low price of Michigan-made Jiffy Mix. A box of their fine corn-muffin mix costs FORTY-NINE CENTS, people.

Dark Horse Brewery in Marshall! We passed many a happy hour drinking their amazing brews and eating their shockingly good pizza. The place looks like someone's condemned shed from the outside but that adds to the charm!

Three Stooges film festival at the redford theater tonight and tomorrow. (April 3 & 4)
They are setting up for some sort of outdoor concert outside the RenCen for tonight I am not sure what bands will be playing. It looks like a big production.

great topic idea
1. dowagiac. a really neat small town that started out making amazing woodburning stoves and fishing lures. they still put on a great ice festival every year.
2. lunkers restaurant in edwardsburg. you can roam around the fantastic outdoor goods selection while waiting for your cheap and yummy food to be prepared.
3. zimmy's tavern [sorry, too tiny for a link], south of union. i stumbled across it while exploring some cass county backroads one summer sunday, and knew it was going to be great when i saw the [ex-] owner's dog running around inside and peanut hulls an inch deep on the floor.
old hat brewery in lawton is a close runner-up.
4. shelton farms market in niles. lots of good produce, meat, cheeses, apple cider, etc., and friendly people.
5. st. joseph county fair in centreville.
6. exploring all the cool little backroads in beautiful cass and st. joseph counties.

Although we havent explored much yet..what we have explored i have to say first hand..the best thing about Michigan...is the PEOPLE. and this little village we live in...once you talk to someone you are like family.

So glad you like it here! Have you taken the kids up to Petoskey yet to look for Petoskey stones along the shore? Only place to find them in the world is in your area, and the best time is right now. After the Spring thaw, and ice has had a chance to move the sand around a bit, and before 1,000,000 tourists have combed the beaches for their tiny bit of Michigan to take back home with them. We are going up tomorrow if the weather holds I think.
