There are rustic, hike in spots at the Ludington State Park. Here is a link to the DNR's website and more specifically, the Jackpine hick-in spots at the park.

Another place in this area is the Scottville Riverside Park which is located right on the Pere Marquette River just south of Scottville. They are replacing the bridge south of town right now and it will be closed through Sept, but you can access the campground from South of town and it may make getting into Scottville itself more difficult (6 mile drive instead of 3/4 mile drive) there isn't that much in town anyway. It is about 7 miles from Lake Michigan.
