Tawas or Oscoda MI (St. Joseph, East Tawas: vacation, income, jobs)

I have been going to the Tawas/Oscoda Mi area for at least 15 years for vacations and Love the laid back, lake life!!!
I have decided to move up there at the end of May 2007 as is my son and his
girlfriend. Well, I have been having a dickens of a time trying to find a job or a house. . .I know its 8 weeks away but jobs really shouldn't be that hard to find. . I am a Licensed Practical Nurse, the hospital there has been void of these jobs for months on their website, the nursing homes (3) of them took my applications with no promise of a job.
I know the area is hard to live in, economically you must commute or make
pretty good money to survive the winters. All I want is a 2 bedroom house with a garage, maybe a porch and near the lake. . a job to support it and Im happy. I will be 60 in May, just looking to enjoy the rest of my work life, then retire.
I will be going up again on April 20th and hope I have good luck.
If anyone out there from the area has any ideas on jobs or homes. . let me know please!!!

I just returned from a week at Harrisville State Park, so I can certainly understand your desire to move to the area. I found 2 ads in the Oscoda Press--one for home health care and one for a CENA. While they may not fully utilize your LPN skills, they could offer income and some breathing room while you find the perfect job. If you are looking for a home, I suggest going to realtor.com and searching the site or go to the Iosco County MLS listings.
