Default Help Please im looking into the possibility of moving to mt pleasant in MI

Hi I need some advice,
I am from the UK and thinking about whether it is possible for me to move to mt pleasant MI temporarily at first. You see the person that i have fallen for has been given this great opportunity in mt pleasant MI and so is living and working there at the moment. I would never ask him to give up his dream and so i am trying to work out how realistic it is for me to follow him to see if things would work out for us. I have known him for 8 years and lets just say it took us a while to get our act together and then he had to leave . So any help and advice on living and working in the USA, and more pacifically MI would be very much appreciated.

Becks

its a college town (central michigan university) and there is also a casino there. other than that, there's not much happening in this place. its in the middle of the state, there isn't much around. unless you're going to work with/for your boyfriend it might be difficult to get a job. the economy is awful, i would not move at this time if i were you. especially for a guy. if he isn't going to make sure you're taken care of and expects you to move to a different country, in the middle of nowhere in a crappy economy i'd say he's not worth it. sorry, just my honest opinion.

I'm guessing he'll be working at the university? Depends on what kind of job you want, if your looking for minimum wage at a restaurant or wal mart you can probably find one, other than that its pretty much the university or bust.

Oh and rent is real cheap here, you can probably get a 2 BR apartment for $300 a month.

You could look into getting a job in Midland to, it's around a half hour drive away.

Thank you for answering,

Tjay thanks for your honest opinion and replying, he doesnt expect me to move but it is something we have been discussing, i am also very independant and dont really want to be supported which is why i would like to work. There is alot of thinking to be done and it isnt a descision i would make lightly.
Crayola again thank you for replying, he is an engineer working for a small company, from my understanding it is quite hard for people from outside the US to get visas to enable them to work, so things arent looking very good on that front. I will keep looking into it though. Cheers for your help.
