Default Libraries in the UP?

My husband and I are planning a move to the UP - right now we're strongly considering Houghton.

He works for a company that will allow him to perform his job anywhere we choose to move (he's a financial writer). I'm a professional librarian, and I'd like to find a library job, and although it's not urgent because his salary is more than enough to live on, I'd still like to keep my toes in my profession.

Other than Michigan Tech and the local Houghton public library, are there any other libraries that you can think of that might not be obvious - such as a hospital library, or a library in a non-profit organization, or a library in a for-profit - anything that a local might know about?

Thanks!!

Oddly enough the director of the Portage library in Houghton just got the boot. Maybe you would have a shot at that. Worth a try.

I saw that about the library director - sounded like a bad situation all around.

If you do go to Houghton, check out the library at Michigan Tech. If I remember my brother's graduation, some 20 years ago, the library housed a collection of florescing minerals. You went into a dark room and turned on a black light. It was way cool!

You might try Finlandia University also. You might also try some of the other counties that are not too far like Ontonagon, Gogibic, etc.
