Where in MI? jobs, schools, low crime, holistic docs
Hi everyone!
I was hoping you could help me! My family and I are looking to get out of NC, and have recently started thinking about Michigan, but need some very specific things. One of my daughters has been vaccine injured, so we need access to naturopathic / holistic drs, but also want good, smaller schools, low crime and access to a university. We love snow and are more to the left, than the right.,politically speaking. I would prefer a smaller town, but with access to a larger town within about an hour. It would be great to be near the beach, but know we can't have everything. We were also thinking that if there were no jobs, my husband would go back to school too, and we would live off our student loans, schloarships etc. So would need cheap rent ( under 1000, but would prefer WAY cheaper) atleast until I graduated and then we'd like to buy. (We would really love to do a lease option, but that's a thread for another time)
We also love to be outdoors and go to fesitivals, farmer's markets, etc.
Is this even possible?
Thanks so much!

You just named about 4 cities to me
St.Joseph Michigan is 90min from Chicago,60min from Grand Rapids and 45 min from Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo is 30 min from Grand Rapids
South Haven about 30min from GR
Holland very close to GR
Small towns in order being St.Joe being the smallest and friendly with good doctors and excellent schools and outdoors is what's it's all about there!
And it tends to be cheaper there as well.

I have heard Traverse City is pretty nice, but have never been there. I've also heard good things about Grand haven, holland and marquette. Not sure if that helps.

I worked in a heath food store for years. I can only name one kinda holistic Dr in MI.. The Borne Clinic in Grand Rapids.. I heard of one in Hillsdale area, but never actually confermed that. I dont know of any others.. Since its very raRE IN mI TO FIND ONE.. i'D SEARCH WHERE THERE ARE HOLOISTIC DRS FIRST THEN LOOK FOR CITIES AROUND THAT. (sry about the caps..lol) Let us know what you find then we might be able to help from there..

The Borne Clinic is huge. I didn't realize he was a holistic doc.

I'm not sure if hes "holistic" but he does things very natural.. using vitamins instead of meds.. I had a friend going there for weekly treatments to clean her blood with ultraviolet light... He is the closest thing to Holistic thats around here.. Remember most of MI is behind the times..

Thank you! i will check out the Bourne Clinic! It sounds great! i will call tomorrow and speak with them. Is GR a nice town to live in, or are there smaller towns within about 45 minutes that would work for us?
Thanks SO much!

Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo. If I hadn't lost my job years ago I would still be there. Of all the places I've lived, it is truly the one I think of as "home."
Lots of health-minded, cultural-minded people living there. My husband and I joked that you can't walk a block without tripping over a theatre or art gallery. A University, a private College, a community college. Half an hour from the lake (Michigan). Lots of u-pick farms close by, many Amish farms south near the border for natural foods. Lots of medical facilities and holistic practitioners around. Shopping, dining, night life. Everything. And it is realtively inexpensive to live there.
Kalamazoo has everything you want. You will not be sorry you moved there. Plus, there is the every-wonderful Kalamazoo Promise, which can help your daughters go to college. https://www.kalamazoopromise.com/
