No -- it is starting to look like a big joke on the masses. '
Now Mexico is claiming that really only 7 deaths are confirmed from this.
Suman en el país 152 decesos sospechosos; sólo confirman siete | Diario.com.mx: Edición Cd. Juárez
It's starting to look like that airplane stunt they pulled in NY City yesterday.

I dont know...just read this.....
" A 23-month-old Texas toddler became the first confirmed swine flu death outside of Mexico as authorities around the world struggled to contain a growing global health menace that has also swept Germany onto the roster of afflicted nations."
Something else for me to worry about I suppose......

Call me crazy. I'm sure people in 1918 thought the same thing about the Spanish Flu before it killed millions. I hope and pray this comes to nothing, but this could be a serious threat. I'm not advocating panic, but alertness is a good thing to have.

Because babies have a much better chance of contracting illnesses than adults.

I heard on NPR last night that 152 have died in Mexico, where sanitation is bad and healthcare is so-so even for the middle class. A guy from the CDC announced that they expect to have a vaccine ready by SEPTEMBER -- that's how worried they are about this!
Another guy came on -- let's call him the Voice of Sanity -- to distinguish a regular flu pandemic from the Spanish Flu of 1918, which is what America seems to expect right now. All a pandemic means is that a given flu strain travels everywhere in the world, and the weak die. This guy made sure to say that the Spanish Flu was an "unparalleled catastrophe," nothing like what they're talking about with the current swine flu. That illness was like nothing that came before or after. One out of 4 people who caught it died, even in populations accustomed to the flu. It killed primarily healthy adults between 20 and 40, especially attacking pregnant women. In unprepared populations, like on the Fiji Islands, almost everyone died.
In contrast, we have about 45 cases in the US right now and every one of them has been described as "mild."

Again, does anyone remember SARS. We were all supposed to have died from it. The media has to fill 24 hour news cycles now, so this is what we get.
Not saying that people shouldn't take precautions, but people should always take some precautions and not spread diseases (like washing your hands if you come into contact with a lot of people in the day).

How many people in the U.S. die a year from just normal influenza? Or Pneumonia? Probably more than a few thousand.
Maybe this will stimulate the healthcare economy.

Magellan,
35,000 people die from influenza in the U.S.A. annually.
Staggering, eh?
