Michigan License Plates
A quick question about the registration stickers on Michigan's license plates. If a sticker says, for example, May 09, does it expire on the first day or the last day of the month?

Expires on your birthday. Hypothetically speaking, the police won't pull you over throughout the month of May just for having an expired tag.

If you wait until after your birthday though, it will cost you an extra $10 for registration.

Oh, so it could expire in the middle of the month possibly?
Here's why I'm asking. I live in Illinois and have Illinois plates, but I was pulled over in Michigan a couple days ago. The officer said my plates were expired. I showed him my registration, which clearly said 5/31/2009, so I should have had 28 days left. I also have the form I have to send in for a new sticker, which was mailed to me in mid-April. Illinois clearly believes my plates are legal.
Having been pulled over (for bogus reasons in my opinion) I was treated to a 40-minute weapons and drugs search, which included the officers and the narcotics dog both searching the inside of my car. Not being a drug user, everything was clean, and I was allowed to go. However, I cannot help but wonder whether there was any real reason to pull me over (if the plates expire on the 1st in Michigan, he may have assumed mine were expired also, but that was not the case, since they're good until the 31st).

That's BS. He was profiling. Were you on I-94? There's a lot of drugs brought into Michigan on that corridor so they profile for anything the slight bit suspicious.

What time of day was it? If it was nighttime, after 10 pm, he was probably trolling for drunks.

No, I didn't; they weren't expired. He said maybe the computer has "flagged" them since its the final month, which makes no sense.
I was just getting on I-75 in Southgate. Two Southgate squads, and a state trooper showed up I assume to assist if necessary.
I agree they were profiling, but they couldn't have picked a cleaner-living individual. No drugs, ever, and I haven't had a drink in years.

I forgot the name of the system, but it only takes seconds for them to check your registration. Just goes to show, they don't need a reason to pull you over.
Too bad they weren't spending their time on the real criminals.....
