Default Bay City and the Coal Power Plant

I'm not sure how many people on here represent the tri-cities area, but there are talks of a coal power plant being built in Bay City. Being that Midland, Bay City, Saginaw, and all the small towns in between are in such close vicinity, the plant will effect the whole area. Ok, so, i'm pretty much completely against, it. Why, because A: i'm not going to live by a coal power plant, because cancer isn't fun. B: because there is no such thing as clean coal, i mean, thats about the silliest thing i ever heard. Seeing all the signs in peoples yards drives me crazy, i don't even understand how people can believe coal can be clean...

Opinions?

I agree the "clean coal" should be "cleaner coal". Most that want the plant wants JOBS. Anytime you convert matter you have a by product. The worst I have seen is those little outside wood burning stoves.

i wish they would come up with something better than burying the soot from the coal IN THE GROUND. or at least stop calling it 'clean' coal.....that's not clean!

i wish they'd focus more on alternative energies.....no more coal, no more oil, no more pollution.
so i for one am against it. do something that will last without polluting our state....instead of having to deal with it years later.

Haha isn't "clean coal" the biggest oxymoron you have ever heard? Its good to see some tri-city folk around here, I thought the Michigan forum was filled with people mostly from Detroit Metro.

I agree Michigan should look into other types of energy including wind/solar. I always get a smile when I drive by the wind mills up in Mackinaw City

And that gives you plenty of time to smile. That is the problem. It takes up a lot of land for a small return. Yes, we need to keep looking. Did you know those windmills take oil to build and maintain? Lots of it. Sure they produce some energy, just not enough. I ask someone from the DEQ once about putting windmills in the bay. Lots of room, lots of wind. I was told the environmental study on the bay would make them cost more than five new coal plants and take ten years.

I was just something I asked the DEQ about but, the ones in my question was above water, just like on the land. It is always windy on the bay. Sure they take oil, to build, all PVC does and maintenance. They are turning.
