I lived in the central U.P. for 9 years. I used to hear a lot about the pot growers down on the Garden Peninsula, and there was a teacher there who got fired for smoking it.
I think the most common crime is the violation of fish and game laws.

Overall, we felt pretty safe living there.

There is some crime. HATE CRIMES, folks tend to be racist up there.

Isn't that what they say about the rest of the world? I doubt it's a Yooper trait if there are in fact hate crimes commited in the UP.

People looked at me funny in Caspian and in the Soo. The area was beautiful, but not for me, at least not for more than a few days. My parents love to go up there.
