Still dont know why the Union people support Dems because most democrats buy foriegn cars
I always get a laugh when the local news is outside a closing plant and the workers are saying buy american. But unions supports the people who dont buy American for the most part.

My union (UWUA) came out supporting Obama and now they want money to defend against this cap and trade stuff. It would be nice if they actually researched these canidates before they endorse them.

As far as GM and Chrysler going down the tubes, it dose not matter how much money you throw at them it will not help if no one buys their cars. I just hope Ford does not get dragged down with them.
By the way I own five American made vehicles. Six if you include my Ford tractor.

Its more important to support Ford in general rather than worry about where 2,000 of its workers are building the car. Especially since a small handful of factories isnt nearly enough to make a car company an "import". Not to mention if people in the unions were more realistic, they would not create conditions that force companies like ford to build some cars over the border to begin with. fords still contain over 80% domestic parts regardless of where they are built and thats the important thing. Japanese manufacturers contain 40-50% at best and sometimes as low as 30%. So dont assume just because a car is built elsewhere that it is not benefitting america. Fords success is not good for Japan. Toyotas success does nothing for America, in case you havent noticed michigan going down the crapper. I dont see toyota saving michigan.

Consumers will choose the better vehicle...let's hope American cars continue to improve...or else American's will continue to buy superior foreign made vehicles.

Imagine ifya were settled on American made TV.

You'd be sittin' around a radio from Taiwan.

Your Levi's ain't made in 'Frisco anymore either.

Do we make anything anymore?

Very interesting. I to was wondering about loyalty to what is preceived as "American" cars. But someone made a valid point. Who is to say what is American anymore. So I guess the fact that I have a Mercedes Benz (who was associated with Chrysler) and a Mazda B4000 (Ford Ranger) won't really be an issue.

Actually, people on the COASTS buy foreign cars...people in the heartland, i.e. MICHIGAN, buy American cars.

When I grew up in Michigan in the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s when I left, it was pretty common that a person with a foreign car might get the car keyed (scraped by someone's key). I can't remember anyone owning or driving a foreign car in Michigan.

ESPECIALLY anywhere around DETROIT, which does vote Democratic as well, but solidly strongly overwhelmingly loyal to American cars.

-------------

However, I left Michigan in 1992...and the car industry certainly isn't loyal to Michigan anymore...and the ambiguity of what is American and not has occured since then as well.
