Sorry to hear that you are facing such hard times. Don't give up though. I hope your education will help you relocate to another area where the opportunities for you will be better!

You can't give up. You have to do whatever it takes to get a job. That might mean packing up and getting to a place with better chances of employment -- and there are places that are better.

The streets aren't going to be very fun when things come crashing down. What happens when/if unemployment handouts run out? Right now many people are plenty comfortable as long as the government keeps extending unemployment but what happens the day there are no more extensions?

You may have the edge on others if you have obtained some schooling, if you have some job skills. You just need to grab onto some kind of job - anywhere and go up from there.

Houston's unemployment rate is 6.5%, and while that isn't great, that means there is a better chance of finding a job there. New Orleans' unemployment rate is 4.9% and there are still jobs from the clean-up there.

Even if you go someplace with the idea that it's only going to be temporary, it's better because you're working on your resume that way. Large holes in the resume, no recent employment can put you in a very bad position when it comes to competing for a job.

They do?

I'm pretty sure that back in 2006 most people were unhappy with Granholm, but would have been less happy with Devos.
