Default Michigan counties tops list of highest unemployment

I just read in the New York Times where 6 counties that are over 20% unemployment are in Michigan. Most are in the North and are Otsego, Cheboygan, Emmit to name three. These are not seasonal adjusted numbers either and were taken before the lay offs from Chrysler. Not looking so good. I asked some of the people I saw around Gaylord what they were doing up north early. Many said they were laid off or on unemployment from Chrysler and were not just going to sit and worry about loosing their job. Makes sense. I know that the Michigan economy is not somehow making a come back.

Unemployment rates were generally higher across the country in January from December, and as a result, the graphics editors decided to add a new color category to the map key: one for counties with unemployment rates of 20 percent or higher.
As of January, there were 19 such counties, with six of them in Michigan. In December, only nine counties had jobless rates this high. (Keep in mind, though, that the county-level unemployment numbers are unfortunately not adjusted for seasonality, so good month-over-month comparisons are hard.)

Not sure what I will do (yes I can really type and spell) Just got my act together and off the streets and now I am in school. Trying to get some type of paper that might get me a job and now this? Be all the crap I get a place, go to school and find myself back at the rescue mission again? Enough to make a person continue drinking...

Its a sad day when Michigan has 6 out of 19 counties in the country with %20 unemployment. And to think there are people here that think all is rosy with MI and our Gov, and Legislature are doing a dandy job.

Leaving Mi broken hearted .........

Did I just hear Michigan's unemployment may top 15% (or was it 20%?) by 2010?

Things were bad when I went ito the streets. Not that I had a great job but it paid the bills.

I just figured why continue to be oe of those peopel who struggle everyday and stilcome up short. Now I get the chance to do something and it starts like its all over again.

Mumia I wish you the best. I hope you do get to start all over again. Detroit and the surrounding area is a hard place to do it.
