Default Possible teaching job openings???

I keep seeing questions about this subject and this looks like an option for some teachers seeking jobs -- not right away but something to bear in mind:

Well...I guess teaching is teaching..even when it pays $29,000 to start at a charter school with few if any benefits and job security. I suppose I might have taken a $29K position. I wouldn't have had to leave Michigan.

At least I would have had a $500 trailer at Westland Meadows and without my two dogs (would have given them back to the shelter since there would be no room in the trailer park) it would have been cheaper.

I wouldn't need a television as I would have been watching one of my neighbors..same with a radio I suppose.

Lawn maintenance would have been elimimated.

I might have taken the $29K position at the charter school if I had thought about all the savings I would reap from the right-to-be-poor conditions..but NO..

Me without hind sight had to take a position in North Carolina that pays almost 1.5X the charter school 29K and keep my dogs and increased the area of lawn maintenance by 3.5X what I had before.

What was I thinking?

Well I have to say you come across like someone who's not looking so much to teach as he is get paid a certain amount. A lot of people would love to teach in a prep school, where every student is serious about achieving and getting into a good college. Nowhere on earth, IMHO, is that more urgently needed than in Detroit.

Love to teach..and love to have a house and food and a car...

Unfortunately LOVE of teaching doesn't quite pay the bills...at least 29K GROSS does not with a $125K house (now with a market value of $65K), $300 insurance, and $3500 property tax, in the city.

I remember when they had like 3,000 or more vacancies at DPS and had almost 5,000 applicants--at the end of the day there
were still 2,500 vacancies...

Having taught in Detroit for nearly 5 years I can attest to the fact that teachers are needed..but the prep schools will be fine..it is the everyday kids that reallly need the interaction and support.

Prep kids have money (90% of them come from familes that are doing pretty good) and will land on their feet. The everyday kid has nothing and is more likely to fall on their face and turn to inappropriate activities.

Can we also refrain from the personal assumptions and stick strickly to the topic and issue...NOT THE PERSON?

Thanks for your support...
