Michigan's Speed Limit raised to 75 Mph?
Ok, I have a question that my brother and I have been debating for several days now, has the speed limit in Michigan been raised to 75 miles per hour? Yes or no? I say no; it would have been on the news and such and the signs would have been replaced. He claims it has been raise but Michigan does not have the finances to institute an entire interstate highway sign change, so they raised the speed limit on paper. I swear this is not a joke and he is extremely convinced this is true.

Don't worry my brother is under the impression it is 75. He usually drives like a runaway missile anyway. Ho'boy, I see a lot of tickets coming his way.

No matter what it is on paper, you can only do what the signs posted say it is. I found that on the Michigan SoS site once, I'll have to look again to see if I can find it again and post a link.

I generally drive 79 on the freeway and the police do not bother me. So to me, the speed limit is 79.

I agree with you Bydand. I know that on a residential street if it is not posted the speed limit is understood as 25 mph. I also know when you encounter those 'End 45 mph speed limit' (usually on 2 lane county or state routes in the middle of nowhere) that the speed limit is understood to be 55 mph. I wonder if the same principle would apply under the presumption that the state had 'silently' raised the speed limit to 75 mph and indeed does not have the money to change the signs; highly unlikely but possible I suppose. Although some would agree that the speed limit is whatever you want it to be solong as there is no police around. I just want to clearify that I don't believe any of this to be true or false; I'm just trying to understand if there is indeed any ounce of truth to this rumour and I don't want anyone to misconstrue the facts about the speed limit in Michigan. Always obey the posted speed.

Which is interesting because I remember in driver's ed in high school if I was driving 35 in a 35 zone my teacher would tell me to go 40, that I could go 5 over the limit.
Back to the original question, I wish they would raise the speed limit to 75 mph in the U.P. and go "Autobahn" on the Seney Stretch Actually I'd be happy if they do what they do in Montana and make the speed limit like 70 mph during the day and 55 mph at night (when there's more road hazards).
