Not too far from Ann Arbor which could be a good thing...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but Portage is near Kalamazoo, not Ann Arbor.

And as far as grammar goes, you only need to check out various sections of this forum to see that bad grammar is not a Michigan trait.

It depends on where you live. When my folks lived in West Branch in Northern MI, it usually started to get 'cold' in SEP. Its not uncommon to get snow in OCT, depending on where you live in the state. And the snow often sticks around until May, depending on where you live.

Oh yes, and Michiganders often say POP or COKE when referring to any soda. The word FLATLANDERS generally refers to anyone from southern Michigan. And EUPERS refers to people of the Upper Peninsula. And YOUS GUYS is the Michigan equivalent of Hey 'yall in Louisiana.

One thing I had never heard until I came to Michigan was the substitution of okay with the phrase all righty then. My G/F's mom will use it alot.

example- me: I'm going up to the party store to get some pop.
her: all righty then

When going to a cottage for the weekend, Michiganders usually say going "up north for the weekend."

We say pop, not coke. "Coke" meaning pop is strictly a southern and hoosier thing. You won't hear a Mountain Dew called a "coke" here (Indiana is a different story).

It's "Yoopers."

This is Michigan, not New Jersey. We say "you guys" a lot, but not "yous guys."

You know the funniest saying to me from Michigan? (I myself just moved here from CA 3 years ago).

"Oh jeez, oh Pete's!"

Huh? LOL

Yeah, and the "pop" thing...I REFUSE! Pop is a term of endearment for my dad, not something I drink!

And I've never heard "you's guys", they say it here like where I'm from: "you guys"
