Great Breweries in Michigan
I am big microbrewery/craft beer fan, and Michigan is a great place for beer enthusiasts. My favorite brewer in the State would most certainly be Founder's, largely in part due to their dangerously delicious (but seasonal) Devil Dancer Triple IPA. I'm also a big fan of Michigan Brewing's High Seas IPA.
I've made it a point to try as many different Michigan brewed beers as I can. However, this is difficult when many Michigan breweries either have limited distribution or don't distribute at all.
So, what are some of your favorite Michigan beers and breweries?

There's a Shorts brewery?
We used to say that Strohs was "shorts" spelled backwards.

Hmmm... Having lived in Oregon for many years prior to moving to MI, that's one thing that I find seriously lacking in MI... good microbreweries. Plus the laws in the state are terribly against it, or more specifically in distributing it. But that's another thread.
Here's my favorite: http://www.northpeak.net/ North Peak in Traverse City. The food there is excellent!
Also Shorts is very good Short's Brewing Company, Bellaire, MI , as is Fletcher Street Brewery in Alpena, if it's still open: Fletcher Street Brewing Company
It's very frustrating that I can't get these beers in the supermarket though.
I'd skip Big Buck Brewery in Gaylord... lousy beer, expensive mediocre food.

I know the Northwest was a leader in the microbrew movement...can i just say though that Michigan is by far leaps and bounds better than the east coast (at least DC/MD area and Philly) when it comes to microbreweries
there are some very cool stores in MI that carry good craft beers...

New Holland is good, forgot about that one.
Have you been to Hopcat yet in Grand Rapids? I have some nutty beer fiend friends who rave about it. It was rated World Class by Beer Advocate:

Even in Flint
When we were visiting our hometown and my in-laws two summers ago, we stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott near the airport in Flint. There we found Redwood Lodge within the hotel/business complex. In addition to great food, they also have a microbrewery and sell growlers.
Don't worry, you don't actually have to go into Flint!
