Default looking to move to Detroit area

I am planning to gradaute from CMU in December with my Bachelor's in Community Development and Health Sciences and plan to look for jobs in the Detroit area....preferrably 20-30 min from Detroit. We have a 15 mo. old and plan to expand our family. Looking for a high quality school district, and we plan to buy a house within the next few years. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated

Thank you!

There are a dozen plus high quality school districts within 20-30 minutes of Detroit or maybe a little bit further out. 20 minutes is pretty close and limits your options. Gooing out to 40-60 minutes away greatly broadens options. How high quality are you looking for. There are loads of good school districts in the area. Do you want schools in the top 10%? If so in what regard?

What makes a "good" school varies with which issues are important to you, what prioirity you give to various issues, and what grade level you look at. Some areas have good elementary schools, but terrible high schools. If you want to know about schools below the high school level, what criteria do you want to sue? For high schools do you care about the following:

Test Scores?

Graduation percentages

College matriculation percentages

Teacher/student raios

Numebr of books in the library.

Sports programs and awards.

Academic competition programs and awards.

intermural sports.

Music and theater programs.

Swimmin pool

Overall school size.

Number of elementary and middle/Jr High schools in the community.

Qualifications of teachers and administrators (i.e. how many have master or doctorate degrees).

Mihcigna Dept Ed. grade rating (Schools are rated A,B,C,D, by the deptarment of education).

SAT scores

ACT scores.

Numebr of scholarship recipients.

Diversity.

Student Pregnancy rate.

Some of these things matter a great deal to some people while they may be unimportant to toehrs.

Other than good schools, what else are you looking for in a community?

Some commuities are urban, some are rural. Others are suburban. Some have water access for most homes. Do you like cookie cutter modern type homes/subdivisions or old fashioned neighborhoods? Are you looking for a place with a quaint histoic downtown? Is shopping important to you? If so what kind of shopping? Does snobbery bother you, or do you prefer feeling elite? A lot will depend of course on how much money you have to spend. The nicest places with the best schools (i.e. Brimingham, Grosse Pointe, Grosse Ile, Troy, Bloomfiled Hills, etc) are more expensive. Do you want woods and fiels, or developed parks, lots of strip malls, etc? For you personally is it important to have lots of resturuants and clubs nearby?

Clinton (48236) is GREAT...Washtenaw County is not so far removed from Detroit metro area and schools are pretty good as well...it also opens options for Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Milan / Dundee and Brighton areas!!

Village of Clinton, Clinton Michigan 49236
