What Michigan animal could this be?
Does anyone in Lexington, MI know what kind of noises I've been hearing at night. I live in a wooded area and have heard the noises twice, both times when it was raining (once during a loud electrical storm). It sounded like several eerie animals, fighting, laughing, screaming all together at the same time. I've never heard anything like it before. Could it be coyotes or red fox? I don't hear any howls, yips, or barks. It seems weird any animal would make such a commotion during a violent thunderstorm and they were only several feet outside my cabin, and kept encircling it. The noise was VERY loud. Any one have any idea? I'm very curious.

Very well could be raccoons. They make an awful racket and can makes some un-worldly noises as well.

Blair Witch?
No, I would guess raccoons looking for table scraps.

Coyotes would be my guess, I have heard them a few times around my house.

Isn't Lexington a resort community? I was thinking maybe the Dogman went on vacation? I guess I have never heard racoons, but the little buggers are bold enough to come right up to the house. Was there any physical evidence the next day? Footprints? Fur? Scat? Overturned trash cans?

Your description sounds like a friggin hyena though. Guess I'd say raccoon or oppossum.

I'll second the Dogman Last summer I rented a cabin in a remote area outside of Bellaire, MI and heard many similar noises at night. I actually refused to hike or mountain bike after the second day of my stay when I found several fresh deer killed. I would recommend you take a look to see if you can find any signs of predation...scat, impressions...coyotes could be to blame, although they are most active during the winter months.
