Default Holt info anyone?

A relative is thinking that there may be a divorce in her future. She is older and doesn't have too much money but she works in Lansing and her son lives in Albion.
She was thinking that if things don't work out someplace like Holt may be a good place to live for the next 5 or so years. For her it would be all about the monthly rent bill. Either a small inexpensive house (I worry about resale) or apt.
Anyone know what Holt is like? Are there areas to stay away from?

Most of Holt is pretty nice. Only area I can think of that might be a little questionable borders the south end of Lansing. The west side of Lansing has some nice apt complexes she may want to check out as well. I would just stay away from the east side (competition from MSU students) and the south end.

I've been looking at rentals in the Lansing area for a year now and she should be able to find something (house or apt) that is not too expensive. With GM going into bankruptcy I would NOT be buying a house in Lansing right now. Soon the State will start laying off hundreds (if not thousands) of employees and I think MSU is not far behind in the cutback department. On the plus side, that is why rents are dropping across the area.
