So will the released prisoners find jobs so they can get back on their feet and finally become productive citizens? Or will they live on welfare handouts and in that case, is much going to be saved by letting them all go?
I think the thought of all the freed prisoner types would encourage more people to flee the state. Not all those prisoners are going to be reformed.

It costs about $50k per year to house each inmate. On SSI & unemployment, it'll cost the state less than half of that

Maybe the ex-cons will leave the state looking for work.

Good idea, give them a "get out of jail free" card and a one-way bus ticket. LOL

But add in the costs of giving the prison staff SSI and unemployment since they'll too be jobless.
And unless Michigan locks people up in prison for no reason, you need to add in the costs of the crimes they'll commit when freed. The increased burglaries, shopliftings, not to mention rapes and murders.

You have to be disabled for SSI and own very little. For unemployment you have to have worked. That being said, no one will get out early. Michigan has TIS. They have to serve to their ERD.

Most will be on parole. There is interstate compact however, they would have to have a relative living in the state.

Send the inmates to China and let them deal with it.
