Moving to Romulus in July...starting to worry
Hi:
My family is moving from Windsor and we bought a house in Romulus. Decent neighborhood, decent house, VERY decent price and terms. (Husband is from Melvindale). Finally found Taylor Exemplar for my 9 yr old twins. But also have a 16 yr old daughter who'll be going into 12th grade.
MEAP's for both Romulus Senior High and Summit Academy North SUCK!! I can't seem to find any school of choice, etc in the area....can anyone tell me of a school system that would work for her? Real estate agent said Crestwood district but Robichaud had worse ratings than the other 2!!!

I grew up in the nearby city of Taylor (it borders Romulus), and unfortunately, private school might be your only answer. The Detroit Free Press consistently rates Taylor's Public School system a "F" and it has a pretty low graduation/college placement rate, so I attended a Catholic Grade School and High School in Taylor and another close suburb Downriver. It was costly, but I graduated with honors, went onto college, and was able to land a job right after graduation. I don't think I would have had the same scholastic accomplishments if I had been exposed to a consistent "F" rated environment.
Have you checked out private schools in the Romulus School District? Or some of the local Catholic High Schools (Divine Child, Gabriel Richard)? I no longer practice that religion, but I am grateful for the challenging education I received from my high school.

Ganriel Richard is supposed to be pretty good (Catholic school).
You are probably stuck with private shchool or homeschooling or supplementing schooling with home schooling.

Here are your closest Catholic School Options:
You've got Cabrini in Allen Park, Gabriel Richard in Riverview (kinda Woodhaven, Southgate, Riverview area) Divine Child in Dearborn and Mount Carmel in Wyandotte (I think it's still open.) There is also a Catholic High School in Monroe-- that I think buses kids from St. Mary's in Rockwood-- so you wouldn't have to make quite as long a haul...
As a 12 year Catholic School kid, I like Catholic education.
Isn't Wyandotte a school of choice? They might have a bit higher scores...

Wyandotte is a little rough. Reportedly because it is a school of choice. It is not terrible, but there are better choices. Trenton is pretty good, but not school of choice.
There is antoehr private school in that area, It is on Middlebelt or Inkster road near Van Horn or King, I cannot remember. A decent school. A little over the top on discipline. (like making the 2nd graders eat lunch int he dark for talking too much and too loudly during lunch).

That might be Summit Academy, which she mentioned had bad scores.... But I'd always heard nice stuff about it! We'll admittedly, it was the grade school that I'd heard good stuff about-- but lunch in the dark doesn't sound all that nice....
