I was fly fishin' the Pere Marquette River near Baldwin, MI one beautiful summer day....ran into a couple of blokes from the U.K.
They were wearing ties and going for carp.
I must say, I've never tied a Windsor knot before I put on my waders.
Great guys, and they were planning a trip for "next year" when I was talkin' to 'em.
The culture is different, but if your dear hubby has an English accent, he'll do well in retail. Folks will come in and buy stuff just to hear him talk.
This is weird. I visited my sister and brother-in-law down in Georgia, and was chattin' with their neighbor who hails from England. The southern accent and British accent are very similar. Don't believe me? Sit between a native from Atlanta and a British airline pilot and listen closely. It's uncanny.

Those were the sales pitches and more that drew us to Michigan. lol. Matter of fact just got back from the beach, beautiful sands and waters, i have never scene such beautiful waters with many different shades of blues and greens in them..and the sailboats...ahhhh i could go on. lol. Back home now, and we are in the woods. Thats one of the best things, you can go into town and be at the beautiful beaches along the water...and return home to the woods. The best of both worlds.

Fox huntin' ain't just for Royalty in Michigan. Neither are the coyotes. The deer are HUGE too. Black bear (depending on where you reside), rabbit, squirrell, duck, etc.
Many folks have vegetable gardens. Your neighbors will share their bounty....trust me. Hope you like zuchinni....LOL
Michigan cherries, apples, and sweet corn are world class. Biting into a good ear is like eating sugar cubes.
The fishing is phenomenal; that's what I miss the most. While the trout are highly regulated ( ya gotta keep up on the rules annually), it's the most tasty treat.
Sunsets over Lake Michigan will make you gasp.

Please check visas and immigration carefully. If you come over on a working visa your husband wont automatically be given a Social Security Number and able to work.

If you have time try to visit both MI and Boston. Boston is an awesome city!!! I would say the weather is better in Michigan and Michigan is a huge State so you have a lot of choices as to where to live. If I were moving back I'd like to try the West side of the State and as close to Lake Michigan as possible. On the other hand Boston is awesome, historic, young, successful working people with a large mixtures of culture. You would get more culture near Detroit MI than the west side of the State. Keep researching!!!! Big decision but I don't think you can go wrong either location!

Pleez clarify what you mean by "culture".
Theatre, art, music, etc?
Diversity?

Lots of advice - thanks.
I have noticed that Grand Rapids has been mentioned. Does it have bars, restaurants etc?? What sports are available?? We are still a young couple so we do like going to a bar, or going for a meal? How friendly are the people with us Brits??
Also this may sound stupid but what wildlife, insects are in Michigan? We do not get much in the UK - def no scary beesties here.
