The demand for nurses is still high, despite the economy. If he finds a job in a place you both like, chances are you'll get one fairly soon.

Yes I would be granted a working visa if my husband got a job.

The reason we are looking at Michigan is that is where I can get a job. The recruitment company will organise my visa etc etc. My husband on the other hand can get a job in Dallas, Boston, LA or Miami.
MI is not the only place that's going to hire you in medical. You can get a job in any other state being a nurse, physician, medical assist/whatever and spare yourself from living in the most unstable state in the US.

The visa thing might be the sticking point, each year the USCIS allots a certain number of work visas. To get one of these you have to meet criteria (obviously) they are given in preference to Doctors, Lawyers and other proffessionals, I know nurses are also high on the list.. However your husband will not get a visa to enter the US to work in retail. I would contact a good nursing agency and talk to them about the viability before you make any more moves. The chances are you will get a visa with a contract but your husband will not. Initially he will be given an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) which wont allow him to get a SSN and be legal to work but you will at least be able to put him on your health Insurance.

A work visa is a H1B and accompanying spouse is a H4, good websites for info are USCIS, visa pro and BritishExpats. The USA is one of the most difficult countries to immigrate to and work legally please make sure you do your homework carefully, cross your T's and dot your i's.
