I am aware that there are restrictions on tinting the side-windows in Michigan. However, if you are to tint the windows, is it a “fix-it” ticket or a violation that carries two points? I have heard different things and I’m trying to clear this up.

My mother lives in Michigan and is debating whether to fully tint the side windows of her car or not. She’s recovering from skin-cancer, and wants as much UV protection while driving as possible. She doesn’t want points on her license, though.

Also, are medical exemptions available in Michigan for tinting, if a person has a skin-condition?

Thanks in advance for your help. I know this is sort of an odd question.

MI has one of the strangest tint laws in the country. You can put whatever darkness you wish on rear and rear windows on a 4-door. You can have a 4 inch only strip at top of driver and passenger front windows and across windshield. No tint applied above 35% reflectivity is permitted.

You can get a medical exemption. I wouldn't want to find out if it carries points or is fix-it, what if you ran into the same officer twice, although I believe its fix it, but if you get caught I'd strip it off and get it legal.
