Default My first trip to Cadillac must see's? Do's?

My family and I will be staying just outside Cadillac for our first time. I plan on taking a ton of pictures and for sure want to go to the west side to Manistee for the lake and some sunsets. Anyone have any tips on things that we must see or do in the area? We are camping at a friends place who has their family up every 4th of July. Might shoot up to Traverse for a day at the Cherry Festival. Anyone know if there are any fireworks in the area? Or will they all be finished? My wife wants to canoe also, any rental places in the area? Thanks.

Huge fireworks show at 10:30pm July 4 over Grand Traverse Bay. Cadillac will be pretty quiet as most folks will be up in TVC for the festivities. Luther Logging Days is the only thing going on in Cadillac during that time. The highlights are a horse pull, logging competition, and a chicken throwing contest. Sounds red neckish but could be fun! Here's where you'd go for canoe trips. Nothing in Cadillac proper but this place is about a 1/2 hr ride north towards TVC. Traverse City Archery, Traverse City Volleyball, Leelanau Swimming pools, leelanau Swimming, Traverse City Basketball, Horseshoes, leelanau Tennis

snoshoewalkr is on a distinguished road
Lake City, about 15 min. from Cadillac, has some activities over the 4th. See this link: Lake City Area Chamber of Commerce
And here is a link to Local Edition, covering local events in the Cadillac & TC areas: 78 Year Old Learns to Fly at Local Edition

google canoe rental Cadillac, MI. There are a few in the area. Lakes Cadillac & Mitchell are nice to drive around, bike around, or boat in. There is a nice swimming beach, Kenwood, at Lake Cadillac. Another nice swimming area on Lake Missaukee in Lake City. Hopefully the weather improves in time for all these ideas!!!
