Both are very liberal enclaves of Texas. I think you can include Houston and San Antonio and most of the southern regions of the state.

Hmm... I've spent quite a bit of time in Houston and never heard anyone call Houston "liberal". Perhaps your definition is different than most that I've heard.

Austin is quite well known as the only progressive city in Texas. That doesn't mean people don't vote Democratic in other cities (they do), but it's not the same as what Austin has.

The locals here in Las Cruces, NM tell me that El Paso, TX is the most liberal and is a lot different than the rest of TX mostly due to the border situation with Juarez.

Well, to draw out the Michigan / Texas parallel. Perhaps El Paso is liberal in the way Detroit is union/welfare liberal. But Austin is liberal in the way Ann Arbor is educated/progressive liberal.

So, in that sense I see your point, but to me, they are two very different forms of liberal. Or, perhaps one is liberal and the other progressive, just stuck under the same tent in a two-party system.

I was contracted by Sony and spent a month in Texas. My favorite by far was Dallas. This was in October/November and the biggest difference I noticed right away (besides the weather) was how clean it was. The roads were golden compared to Michigan.

Way better radio stations! Only thing that really bugged me was tuning in to the local sports radio stations and listening to them talk like.....a........mile........an...........hour... .......if.........you......get......my.......drift . People are really nice there as well.

Watch out for crazy drivers! Especially Big Rig drivers! They were blowing us off the road down there!

Oh and the bugs are also bigger in Texas. Much bigger. We were crusing down 35 and had the windows down since it was like 70 there and snowing in Michigan, and a huge ass bug nailed me right in the face!! Nearly took out my eye. You should have seen our windshield, dead bugs all over the place!!

I am a guy so of course I noticed all the good looking women in Texas, not that Michigan doesn't have them, but DAMN Dallas has it going on! Especially if you like Asian woman. It seemed most were more "fit" if you will then you would see in Detroit. Somebody told me it's because they have nice weather all year around so people don't stay inside for months at a time like in Michigan.

None of this helps probably, but I loved it there and wouldn't mind living there at some point in my life.
