Question Schools

Hello,

We will be moving to the Troy/Royal Oak/Clawson area soon and need to learn about the school systems, particularly elementary schools. I understand Troy is rated very highly. How do others in the area compare?

Thanks!

Troy is the best, Royal Oak a close second, Clawson not so much.

creativewoodworking is right. Troy has the best schools in the area and the city has low crime and is very nice.

Lake Orion schools compare a lot close to Troy. Lake Orion is really nice place to live in for kids and the elementary schools are great here.

Troy by a mile

But how much can you afford? Troy is also the most expensive by a mile. Amazing how that works All those areas are safe for families and you can walk around at night and feel fine. Troy is usually established families, 2 kids, dad or mom (or both) in professional work, etc. Royal Oak/Clawson are more beginner homes with singles and young families or older people who have lived in the houses for 30+ years.

Consider hoping across the county line into Macomb County. The tax rates are much better than Oakland and Utica Community Schools are great. To be in the Utica district you'd need to be in north Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, City of Utica or parts of Macomb Township. Also a small portion of Washington Township goes to UCS.

Default Help with Schools

I would recommend checking out the web site "greatschools.net" . It allows you to search a geographical area and see the stats on the schools in that area. If you use the "compare schools" feature, it gives a great snapshot.
