bay city has a lot of good things going for it. it has several nice downtown areas with mom and pop stores, plus the mall, meijers, menards, etc.. plus you are just a hop, skip and a jump on the freeway to the malls and theaters and museums in saginaw and midland, and all the other things they offer, too.
lots of nice old neighborhoods as well as newer subdivisions. i love driving by the homes of the old lumber barons and imagining what the city was like back then.
HUGE fourth of july celebration with some of the best fireworks in the state fired over the river. and obviously, it is also on the bay.

I don't hear much about Bay City, not really a diserable area... most are either there due to work, or plan to settle for years to come.

It's a nice place if you have work. If you're a college student it's not so great a place to be because the economy is so horrible (even in good national times) and opportunities are limited. I always also thought it was a tad boring when I was kid, but ever since I moved away to go to college I realize it can be much, much worse. Now I'm looking forward to moving back.
