Default Active Duty Military moving to MI-Vehicle registration?

I am Active Duty military (currently stationed in North Carolina) and recieved orders to Michigan. Currently My vehicles and boat/trailer are titled/registered in NC, and have NC plates. Being active duty military moving TO michigan, can I keep my vehicles and boat/trailer registered out of state legally?

The SOS website only discusses provisons for MI residents stationed out of state, not for those inbound..

thanks!

thanks peacechild, but I did see this link..unfortunately as I said, it only addresses active duty members that are from Michigan, and out of state on orders...not the other way around.

I have no idea what applies to the military. I would imagine you would have to get insurance in Michigan though. Might get ugly, if you need to file a claim. You know how insurance companies can be. I know, they put me through hell after I had a car accident. Stay away from Progressive Insurance, whatever you do. They are known as "Regressive Insurance." Ruthless.

Best bet would be to contact the Secretary of State in Lansing directly and ask them. They have been very helpful each time I have had a question and not like dealing with a gov't office at all. Actually nice and helpful without a lot of BS and hoops. Here is the link to their contact page: SOS - Contact the Secretary of State

If I remember right, you don't have to change anything as long as you are active duty, but it has been a long time since I knew active duty in the State. It may be to your advantage to change for price, depending on where you are coming from.

I believe that once you are a Michigan resident living in Michigan you will be required to register and plate your vehicles in Michigan. However, you shouldn't have to do so until the plates are due for renewal.
